    News

In April 2009, my manuscript for a new book of poems, titled Words Before Dawn, won the Everett Southwest Literary Award.  The judge was Brian Turner, who wrote Here, Bullet (Alice James Books).  This is a generous award, sponsored by the Everett family of Oklahoma, and administered by some fine folks at the University of Central Oklahoma, for the purpose of highlighting and encouraging writing from the area of Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico (that's a lot of land, and a lot more writers than many people realize).  The competition is held every two years, and is given to an unpublished manuscript.  It is not a publication prize--the book remains, at this point, unpublished.  (Added 7/7/09).

I have updated the "Samples" page with links to poems of mine that are posted at various other websites.  If you click on the link you'll be taken to that poem--but stay awhile and explore the other poems on these sites: Campbell Corner, The Paris Review, and AGNI online.
