ATTENDANCE POLICIES

This is a graduate seminar: the expectation is that you will attend every class. Further, Research Methods is a very challenging course, and missing only one week can put you immeasurably behind. As a result--and with your best interests at heart--attendance is mandatory.

At the same time, because life is complicated, I will consider waiving absence penalties in the following circumstances given appropriate documentation: your own debilitating illness, the serious illness of a dependent, or the death or funeral of a family member.

TTU policy identifies only university approved trips and religious holidays as excused absences. Provide appropriate verification in advance if you plan to miss class due to such events.

If you must miss,

  • Each absence reduces a final grade by 5 percentage points (a final grade of 90 becomes 85).
  • Excessive absences--1 or more--may result in failure of the course, regardless of other grades earned.
  • Absences accrue from the first day of class, regardless of individual registration status.
  • Arriving to class late or leaving early-in either case, by more than 5 minutes-constitutes an absence. Missed work cannot be made up; missing work affects your participation grade.
  • If absent, you are responsible to contact a classmate for assignments given or for changes made to the schedule.

WITHDRAWAL DEADLINE

To withdraw from the course, students must fill out the appropriate paperwork at the Registrar's office no later than the withdrawal deadline. After that deadline, students must complete the course for a grade. You can find the last day to drop through your raiderlink portal, under the link "academic calendar."

FINAL EXAMINATION

We will be using the final examination period as a class meeting. Attendance is mandatory.

UNIVERSITY APPROVED TRIPS & RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS

TTU policy identifies only university approved trips and religious holidays as excused absences. Please provide appropriate documentation advance if you plan to miss class due to such events.
