STC Academic Community

Community Elections

Our Goal:  Support the STC
Academic Community.

This year I would like to coordinate the election and recruitment of new persons on the Academic Community Management Team.  The following information is useful to persons supporting this initiative and interested in running for office.

At this time the Academic Community doesn't have a set of bylaws.  But we should have them, and they should help us with the continuity from one management team to another.  The creation and ratification of these bylaws this year, leading up to elections late next Spring, will be one of the initiatives I will work on this year.

  • Elections are mandated by STC policies
  • Elected managers agree to serve at least two years
  • Elected managers agree to pass along all information to incoming managers
  • All members of the management team are expected to attend the annual conference and will receive a $250 conference attendance stipend
  • Elections will be held in April, 2008
  • Persons may self nominate
  • Elections will follow the as-of-yet unwritten bylaws of the community

Elections in the STC usually are handled by a Nomination Committee.  I will follow that process this year and have asked for volunteers to serve on that committee.
